him & her XXVI: land of the free

H E R :

Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. It's right in the middle of summer, you eat a lot of hot dogs, watch fireworks, and get sunburned.

This year since Fourth of July was on a Monday we had the entire weekend to celebrate.

Saturday: We woke up early to hike to the Upper Palisades. It was a 14 mile hike! It was the longest hike I've ever done. All of our legs/feet were extremely sore the next day, but it was so worth it!

After we hiked we all got square shaped ice cream from Swan Valley, swam around in the reservoir, and went back to camp. I was so exhausted by the end of the night!

Sunday: We got some more ice cream and drove back to Rexburg. Then we cooked some hot dogs, played spike ball, and watched Independence day. Very patriotic.

Monday: For the past three years we have had the best Fourth of Julys in Rexburg! In the morning we watch the city parade and then we float the river. Floating the river is always so entertaining (and freezing). And then it's time to head to Idaho Falls for the firework show. It's one of the top 10 best shows in America!

Check out this drone footage of the show last year

All in all it was a great, jam packed Fourth of July weekend. I'm thankful to live in this country and be surrounded by the people that I am.

H I M :

4th of July in Idaho is always a good idea. This year we planned a long weekend that including hiking, camping, celebrating, and fireworks!

On Saturday we did a hike to Upper Palisades Lake. It was sweet and the hike wasn’t too hard, just long. We hiked along a river and passed a few smaller lakes and ponds too. Everyone should try it at least once.

On the way back, we crossed paths with a mom moose and its baby. I was about 10 feet from it, we made eye contact, and we turned around and ran back up the trail. Close call but pretty awesome to witness.

After the hike we camped with some of our friends. I love camping, it is something that I have done my whole life and it is so nice to be able to camp so often. I love being outside.

I have been in Rexburg for the 4th of July the last 5 years and it never gets old. We always go float a section of the river in Rigby and then head down to Idaho Falls for the fireworks. It is probably my favorite part of the year in Idaho. I love the warm weather, being with our friends and celebrating this amazing country we have the privilege to live in.
